2025 G.E.M. INTERNATIONAL NANDINI ASHWAR DOOBAY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Eliza Nyota, originally from Kabindula in eastern DRC, has lived at Grace Orphanage since age six after losing her father to rebel violence and her mother’s resulting mental instability. Despite these hardships, Eliza excelled academically, graduating in 2024 and earning admission to the University Espoir d’Afrique in Bujumbura, Burundi, where she is completing her first year of a Bachelor’s in Social Work and Community Development. Passionate about helping others, Eliza hopes to become an entrepreneur focused on supporting orphans, widows, and improving community health, especially for women and children.

NURSING, ARIHANT COLLEGE OF NURSING

Monika came to the institution at the age of three after her mother passed away, and has grown up there with the support and guidance needed to succeed. She completed her 12th grade in the science stream and is now pursuing a B.Sc. in Nursing with the goal of building a career in the medical field. She is also passionate about painting and enjoys contributing to household activities. This scholarship will help ease her financial challenges, allowing her to focus fully on her studies, access necessary learning resources, and continue developing her creative interests. With this support, Monika will be able to strengthen both her professional skills and personal passions, opening the door to a promising and independent future.

Megha’s father passed away, and as her mother was unable to raise her, she was admitted to kindergarten at the institution, where she has grown and thrived. She has a special interest in sewing and embroidery, paints beautifully, and is currently taking animation classes with the goal of building a career in computers in the future. Megha is a calm-natured girl who also sings very well. This scholarship will help provide her with the financial support needed to focus on her education, enhance her skills in animation and computer studies, and continue nurturing her artistic and musical talents. With this support, she can work toward a stable and fulfilling career while developing her many creative passions.

Sarita came to Maatri Aanchal Kanya Vidyapeeth at the age of four and has no parents to support her, finding in the institution both a home and the guidance to thrive. She is now pursuing a B.Sc. in Animation and has a deep passion for classical dance, having participated in competitions at various venues. This scholarship will ease her financial challenges, enabling her to focus fully on her studies, access the tools and resources needed for her animation coursework, and continue developing her dance skills. With this support, Sarita can strengthen both her academic and artistic talents, paving the way for a bright and independent future.

After the death of Rekha’s parents, her relatives left her, and as the eldest, she is now taking care of children. She has a strong interest in computers, as well as sewing and embroidery. Rekha is a calm and composed girl who manages her responsibilities with quiet determination. This scholarship will help ease her financial burden, enabling her to pursue her education in computers, develop her skills in sewing and embroidery, and continue caring for the children who depend on her. With this support, Rekha will have the opportunity to build a secure and independent future.​

AMELIA

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN DIPLOMA,
UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA

2024 G.E.M. FOR GUYANA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Amelia recently completed her secondary education at the Saraswati Vidya Niketan, and is now pursuing the Pharmacy Technician Diploma at the University of Guyana. Following this diploma, Amelia will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy at the University of Guyana. In the future, Amelia hopes to own a pharmacy, and become a pharmacist. Through doing so, she hopes to provide medication that is readily available to her community in order to allow all individuals of her community to remain healthy. 

 

With a modest single-income household, the cost of postsecondary education presents itself as a barrier to Amelia’s family. Through this scholarship which cover’s Amelia’s education costs for this semester (up to December 31st,  2024), Amelia will be able to pursue her post secondary education without any financial strains!

KEZIA 
JEFFREY

ASSOCIATES OF SCIENCE IN CHEMISTRY, 
UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA

2024 G.E.M. FOR GUYANA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Kezia is in her second year of an Associate of Science in Chemistry and will begin her Bachelor’s in Chemistry next year. She aspires to become a chemical engineer or environmental scientist, working in labs on chemical analysis, data interpretation, and environmental projects to support her passion for conservation. Kezia also hopes to tutor or teach part-time to make chemistry more engaging for future scientists and engineers.

Coming from a single-parent household, the cost of postsecondary education is a financial burden for Kezia and her mother, who is the sole income provider while also attending university. This scholarship would help cover Kezia’s overdue fees and her first-semester fees through December 31st, 2024, easing their financial strain and allowing her to continue her education.

RHEA 
JANKINATH

BACHELORS OF SCIENCE (OPTOMETRY),
UNIVERSITY OF GUYANA

2023 G.E.M. FOR GUYANA X Y.R.W.F. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Rhea is a Guyanese resident currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Optometry at the University of Guyana. Previously, she completed an associate's degree in Biology, and is working towards opening an optometry clinic for improved eye health within her community. 

In addition to her passion for her academics, Rhea volunteers with many organizations within her community. This includes the Blairmont Humanitarian Organization, West Berbice Dharmic Naujawaan, and Bath Shri Krishna Mandir. With a modest household income, this degree places a severe financial burden on Rhea and her family. With this scholarship, Rhea will be able to pursue her academic endeavours, and remove the financial barriers preventing her from completing this degree!
